【主講人簡介】
劉瑞明，中國人民大學國家發展與戰略研究院教授、博導，國有經濟研究院執行院長，《產業經濟評論》執行副主編，近年來以第一作者或通訊作者身份在《經濟研究》、《管理世界》、《經濟學季刊》、《世界經濟》、《中國工業經濟》、Research Policy、Journal of Corporate Finance等雜志發表60余篇論文，主持國家社會科學基金重大項目、國家自然科學基金項目、教育部人文社科基金項目等多項國家級、省部級項目，曾獲得“教育部中國高校科學優秀成果獎”、“全國優秀博士論文提名獎”、“第四屆張培剛發展經濟學青年學者獎”、“第六屆黃達-蒙代爾經濟學獎”、“首屆譚崇臺發展經濟學獎”、“第四屆洪銀興經濟學獎”等學術榮譽。
【摘要】
Can entrepreneurship persist, even after the imprisonment of the market? Using county-level panel data for Shaanxi, China, from 1978 to 1990, we examine the causal relationship between Ming-Qing Businessmen (MQB) and Township and Village Enterprise (TVE) establishment. Leveraging the policy shock targeting TVEs in 1984, in a difference-in-differences framework, we find that counties with more MQB experienced faster TVEs’ growth after the policy. This growth is economically significant, persistent and can be explained by the sensitivity and ability to capture opportunities for TVEs' development in different counties, bringing considerable long-term economic welfare.
