【摘要】
Under the Kyoto Protocol, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is expected to facilitate the North-South knowledge spillovers for climate-friendly technologies. This paper examines the effects of this voluntary international climate cooperation on firm innovation and knowledge spillovers through the lens of CDM projects hosted in China. Using a matched Difference-in-Differences (DID) approach, we find that CDM projects contribute to firms’ innovation quantity, quality, and direction in renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies. These results can be explained by a rich set of project heterogeneity, capturing the learning-by-doing effect, the induced-innovation incentives, and the economics of scale. Furthermore, we explore the role of foreign sponsors in knowledge spillovers, measured by patent citations from sponsoring countries to the host country. Our results suggest that sponsoring firms play a technology-supporting role by raising the innovation quantity and quality while sponsoring governments serve as an intermediary role by facilitating citation flows.

崔靜波，昆山杜克大學(xué)社會(huì)科學(xué)部和環(huán)境研究中心應(yīng)用經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)副教授。曾擔(dān)任武漢大學(xué)經(jīng)濟(jì)與管理學(xué)院副教授，湖北省楚天學(xué)子人才計(jì)劃，美國(guó)愛(ài)荷華州立大學(xué)經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)系博士后、訪問(wèn)助理教授。他博士畢業(yè)于美國(guó)愛(ài)荷華州立大學(xué)獲經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)博士學(xué)位，碩士和本科分別畢業(yè)于武漢大學(xué)和華中科技大學(xué)。研究方向：環(huán)境經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)、專利創(chuàng)新、國(guó)際貿(mào)易。研究成果已發(fā)表在經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)國(guó)內(nèi)頂級(jí)期刊《經(jīng)濟(jì)研究》、《管理世界》、《經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)（季刊）》、《中國(guó)工業(yè)經(jīng)濟(jì)》，以及國(guó)際權(quán)威期刊Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), American Economic Review Papers and Proceedings, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, China Economic Review, The World Economy, Energy Economics, Energy Policy等。主持國(guó)家自然科學(xué)基金面上項(xiàng)目、青年項(xiàng)目、應(yīng)急項(xiàng)目、以及江蘇省青藍(lán)項(xiàng)目。長(zhǎng)期擔(dān)任環(huán)境經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)、農(nóng)業(yè)經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)、創(chuàng)新經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)國(guó)際頂級(jí)學(xué)術(shù)期刊(JEEM, JAERE, AJAE, Nature Climate Change, Research Policy)，以及國(guó)內(nèi)權(quán)威學(xué)術(shù)期刊《中國(guó)工業(yè)經(jīng)濟(jì)》、《經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)（季刊）》等匿名審稿人。
