題目：The Role of Informal Employment in A Dualistic Economy: A Political Economy Analysis

Abstract:
This paper presents an equilibrium model of formal and informal sectors of a dualistic developing economy, to enable both supply-side and demand-side analyses of formalization and welfare. In a multi-region setting with perfect labor mobility, a consumer taste for diversity, skill heterogeneity, and regional disparity in regulatory and trade costs, high-skill entrepreneurs self-select to pay the regulatory costs in the formal sector to trade globally and lower-skill entrepreneurs choose the informal sector to trade locally to avoid the regulatory costs. In equilibrium, formalization reflects the balance between consumption diversity, which expands with local informal entrepreneurship, and productivity, which increases with formal-sector employment. The equilibrium accounts for the sectoral disparity in entrepreneur skill, labor productivity, and firm size documented in La Porta and Shelifer (2014). It further accounts for the concurrent rises in education, export, and formalization and for regional sorting of formal entrepreneur skill found in Indonesia. The role of the informal sector in enriching consumption diversity but pushing up the labor cost for are supported by our counterfactual analysis which excludes the informality.
演講人簡介：
劉宇維博士是供職于新葡的京集團350vip8888經(jīng)濟與管理學院下轄的經(jīng)濟與管理研究院的一名講師。在2018年初夏加入新葡的京集團350vip8888經(jīng)濟與管理學院之前，劉宇維博士曾先后在復旦大學經(jīng)濟學院和新加坡國立大學房地產(chǎn)系攻讀本科學士學位（經(jīng)濟學（數(shù)理經(jīng)濟學方向））和博士研究生學位（城市經(jīng)濟學）。在新加坡國立大學留學期間，他曾以研究助理的身份，參與到“東南亞國家的人力資本，勞動力轉(zhuǎn)移和區(qū)域發(fā)展”項目的研究工作當中，并根據(jù)其研究成果，發(fā)展出自己的博士論文“產(chǎn)業(yè)正規(guī)化與經(jīng)濟發(fā)展”和一系列工作論文。劉宇維博士的研究興趣包括城市經(jīng)濟學，區(qū)域經(jīng)濟學，房地產(chǎn)經(jīng)濟學和金融，以及發(fā)展經(jīng)濟學。另外，他目前的研究和勞動經(jīng)濟學、公共經(jīng)濟學等應用經(jīng)濟學學科深度關聯(lián)，關注新興市場和二元經(jīng)濟中勞動力的跨生產(chǎn)部門與跨區(qū)域轉(zhuǎn)移，以及與之相關的經(jīng)濟福利分析。
